Ask Collage – Am I at Risk for STDs if I’ve Had Only One Partner?
Hi! I’m Kenda High, the Kearney Center Director and I’m also a registered nurse.
One question that we often get asked is, “If I’ve only had sex with my boyfriend and my boyfriend has only had sex with me, does that put me at risk for developing an STD?”
The answer to that is, if that’s very truthful, if you’ve only had sex with your boyfriend and he’s only had sex with you, then that does NOT put you at risk for an STD. But you have to remember that means ANY type of sexual contact, which includes oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, or genital-to-genital contact.
So the best way to know is to come in and be tested, so you can be the healthiest. Because you have to remember, ANY time that your boyfriend maybe has been with somebody else or you have been with somebody else, that puts you at a higher risk of developing an STD.
