Get To Know The Collage Staff – Mitch Ivey
Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting.
This week we want to introduce you to Mitch Ivey, one of our board members.
Mitch, thanks for taking some time to talk to us and answer a few questions that will help our blog readers get to know a bit about you.
We’ll give you an easy question to start things off. What is your favorite thing about being part of Collage?
The opportunity to see lives healed and changed.
We love that Collage is a place where people can come for help and hope as well. Would you share a little about your educational and professional background?
I have a secondary education degree in Mathematics. I taught high school math and science for 5 years. While teaching I started working as a part-time youth pastor. After 3 years I took the plunge and have been a full-time pastor for 16 years and the senior pastor for 7 years here at Grace Fellowship in Kearney.
There’s a joke just waiting to be made about math class and prayer, but we won’t go there. So other than algebraic equations and being a pastor, what else do you enjoy doing?
I love to play golf, go to concerts, smoke meats and cook.
A man that cooks – your wife is one lucky lady. Would you tell us a little about your family?
I have been married to my wife Melanie for 20 years. We have four boys. Kaleb is a senior at Kearney High. Jarred is a sophomore at Amherst. Josh is a 7th grader at Horizon. Kamran is a 4th grader at Park. Four boys and four schools adds a little flair to our lives!
Okay, we want to change things up with some pretty serious questions. What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?
Nothing! Just kidding. Where do I start? Working on cars is high on the list.
What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Having to speak in a packed GYM at an event before Coach Tom Osborne took the stage.
No pressure there at all. We bet you were fantastic! What is your favorite TV show or Movie?
24 and Fletch
Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Marrying an amazing wife!
Good answer – we bet she’s reading this. What are some things that make you really happy?
Good meat, Nebraska football, worshippers
What were the last 2 books you read?
Chasing the Dragon and Misfits Welcome
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
A little bit of both. But my job tends to pull the extrovert out of me!
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
Tacos and Pizza
Ummm Mitch, those are TWO things. Now we understand why you’re not teaching math anymore. J Ok, on to the next question. If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Cancun with my wife.
Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?
Freedom is not the absence of something it’s the presence of someone. – Bob Hamp
Thanks again Mitch for being willing to share and let our community get to know you a bit. If there was something in the Q&A you liked, we’d love to hear from you in the comments. We may even get Mitch back to answer a few questions if you have any for him.
