Get To Know the Collage Staff: Taya Moore
Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting.
This week we want to introduce you to Taya Moore, our Client Relations Coordinator in Kearney.
Taya, Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk a little about yourself in order to allow our blog readers to get to know you .
We’ll start out with the easy questions. What is your favorite thing about working/volunteering at Collage?
Getting to help make the first few moments that people walk in a positive experience. I’ve been so many places and have felt unsure or scared or hurting inside and those first few moments have the opportunity to make those feelings less intense or make them worse. If I can help make those feelings less intense then I would consider it a successful day.
That is fantastic. We want our clients to feel welcome and loved when they walk in the door and you do a great job. Will you tell us a bit about your education and professional background.
I worked in cellular/wireless for over 10 years which helped fuel my love of electronics! I also was a negotiations specialist for Freedom Financial Network where I helped people negotiate their debt with creditors in an effort to help them get to a better place financially. Once we had our little girl I stayed at home with her as a stay at home mommy.
Between being a mom and work, we imagine that keeps you pretty busy. In what free time you do have, what hobbies do you enjoy?
I love crafts, sewing and planning parties!! Oh and I love running too, it is a huge stress reliever for me 🙂
You mentioned your little girl, will you share a little about your family.
I have been married to my husband for almost 4 years. We met in Phoenix AZ and moved to Santa Clara CA a week after we got married, then moved back to Phoenix when we found out we were expecting. We ended up having 2 miscarriages prior to having our sweet little girl. Once she was born we decided to move closer to my family and came back to Kearney where I grew up. Our daughter is now 16 months old and so much fun!
Now that you’re in Kearney, what is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?
I love the seasons!!! Living in Phoenix you don’t really get seasons. Being able to spend so much time outside is a lot of fun too. I also love how friendly everyone is in a small town.
Now we’ll more on the the tough questions. What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?
Cooking…my thoughts are that if it’s going to take longer to make it than it’s going to take me to eat it then it’s not worth making. I plan on letting my daughter watch Master Chef Junior as she grows up so maybe she’ll like it and I want to cook for us. 🙂
What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
I used to have pet snakes and one got out once. She happened to be pregnant too so I was really hoping to find her before she had babies somewhere in my house. Moving everything around my house looking for my snake and hoping I didn’t find her and scare her and get bit was super suspenseful. Every item I moved or turned over was like waiting for the jack in the box to pop up.
What is your favorite TV show or Movie? Snakes on a Plane?
I love The Office.
Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
I would say that the Hotdog Dance song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse probably showcases my best dance moves. I do know the words and proudly sing along to almost all of Disney Junior’s theme songs.
We may need make this a video blog featuring your awesome dance moves! What are some things that make you really happy?
My family makes me very happy. Getting to spend time together and enjoy the moments is something that always fills my heart up. Dancing with my little girl is one of my favorite things to do! Ice cream also makes me happy. I love kittens too. Well, really any baby animal. There is something so joyful about a baby animal and their sweet kisses.
Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?
Ummm I threw up on the nurse when I was in labor. That was kind of embarrassing, but she wasn’t very nice to me before so it wasn’t as awful as it could have been.
Nothing that happens during labor counts, that’s our policy. What was the last spontaneous thing you did?
Clearly the fact that I’ve pondered over and come back to this question multiple times shows how NOT spontaneous I am. I have no idea the last spontaneous thing I’ve done. I’m a planner for sure!!!
What were the last 2 books you read?
Love and Respect & Created to be his Helpmeet
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I think it depends on the situation. I’m a thinker so I like to feel comfortable prior to being open. So I guess I would be an introvert. But once I get to know people or am comfortable in a situation then I’m pretty open.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
Ice cream. But I would also need the calories not to count.
If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Bora Bora! I’ve always wanted to go there and stay in the bungalows on the water with the glass floors so you can see the fish swimming underneath you. I think that would be so peaceful and relaxing.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
What you are going through now is temporary. Life will have ups and downs so accepting this will allow you to prepare and deal with the struggles as they come. Just embrace the joys and times of ease as they come. This has been true for me in finances, relationships, health and so many other things! Embrace the ride and find little joys in each of the seasons.
That is great advice. Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Wayne Grtezky – Michael Scott
Love that – life is not meant to be lived on the sidelines. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I love reptiles. I used to breed snakes. They were super cute and never bit me once. I’ve had pet water dragons, iguanas, bearded dragons, salamanders and sand boas.
We’re making a mental note that we will never have a “Bring Your Pet to Work Day” at Collage.
Taya, thanks so much for spending some time with our readers and letting them get to know you a little bit. If Taya shared something you liked, we’d love for you to let her know in the comments and we may even be able to get her back if you have any other questions.
