Get to Know the Collage Staff: Brandi Hilyard
Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs, we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families, and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments, or other fun things you’ll find interesting. This week we want to introduce you to Brandi Hilyard, one of our team members who serves as a Sonographer and a Patient Advocate.
Brandi, what’s your favorite thing about working at Collage?
Gosh, I can only pick one? I love the entire Collage team and getting to work in such a positive environment with crazy fun people. I also love my dual role as an advocate and a sonographer and the continuity of care I get to provide our patients. Pregnancy tests, STD tests, phone calls, ultrasounds, showering moms with gifts after delivery…I love it all.
Awww…You’re so awesome! Tell us a bit about your education and professional background.
I attended UNK and graduated with a B.S. in Radiologic Sciences. I attended X-ray school at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and later specialized in Ultrasound at the Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics in Mobile, Alabama.
Roll Tide Roll. Oh, we can’t say that in Husker Nation. 😉 🏈 So, what hobbies do you have outside of work?
I love spending time with family and friends, cooking (when I have time), and reading.
Tell us a little about your family that you love to spend time with.
My husband Todd and I have been married for almost 11 wonderful years. He’s the Superintendent for Holdrege Public Schools. I have two amazing stepchildren:
Jordyn, 20- attends Concordia University in Seward, and Jackson, 18, plans to attend UNL next fall. My entire extended family lives in Minden and Todd’s family lives in Holdrege so we’re all pretty close to each other and get to spend time with each other.
Superintendent huh? Does he know how much time you spent in the principal’s office when you were in school? Tell us your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?
I LOVE Nebraska!! I’ve lived in a lot of places but Nebraska is the best!! The good life, the simple life, and the people are so down to earth and friendly.
Yep! That’s us 😊 What’s one thing that you’re just absolutely no good at doing?
Painting!! Whether it’s on canvas or on walls…I’m the worst!!
Good to know. I guess you’ll be on cleanup crew next time we paint at Collage. What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Driving to and around Los Angeles all by myself pre-smartphones!!
That would be scary for sure!! What’s your favorite TV show or Movie?
Shawshank Redemption, my absolute favorite movie of all time!
That movie’s a classic for sure. Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
Honestly, I love all music, it just depends on my mood, but I have a secret crush on Kenny Chesney. Is it a secret if my husband knows? 💗
Your secret’s safe with us cuz we think his tractor’s pretty sexy ourselves. But we digress. What are some things that make you really happy, besides Kenny?
That’s easy…the 5 F’s…Food, Family, Friends, Faith, and Furbabies. Our Goldendoodle Macy always makes me smile. 😃 🐶
Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?
When I was 5 years old, I was selling feathers and rocks in the neighborhood with my best friend. Apparently, sales were pretty good that day, as we were too busy to stop and go back home for a break, so… we went to the bathroom in my neighbor’s flower garden… and she caught us! She was SO mad at us, but we lied to our parents and blamed it on the dog. 💩 I guess you can say I took the time to smell the roses that day. 🌹
Remind us never to smell the roses in your garden! JK. What was the last spontaneous thing you did?
Does shopping count?
Of course! Shopping always counts! What were the last 2 books you read?
Where the Crawdad’s Sing and The Positive Dog. I’ve read 6 books during this Covid time and it’s been wonderful!
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
An extrovert for sure!! Did someone say party?
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
Anything Italian that includes a glass of wine) 🍝🍷
Yum! Count us in too! If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
ITALY. I’m super bummed as I’ve been planning a trip to Italy for my 50th birthday for over 10 years! Due to the current situation, we’ve put that on hold for now. We will still go sometime, maybe next year instead.
We hope you make it there soon. Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?
“Everything is gonna be alright!” Not quoting Bob Marley here, but my father said this to his three girls shortly before his passing. He was my hero!!! Hearing him say this, made it easier on mom, my sister Buffi, and me.
Sniff. Sniff. He must have been a wonderful man to have raised such a beautiful daughter like you! One last question…what’s something most people don’t know about you?
I was in New York City on 9/11/2001. I was unable to get a hold of my parents for several hours to let them know I was safe. Due to the situation, I was stranded there for a few extra days before I could find a rental car and drive back to Illinois where I was living at the time. A very scary time for sure.
