Get To Know The Collage Staff – Brian Bergstrom

Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting.

This week we want to introduce you to Brain Bergstrom, our Board Treasurer.

Brian Bergstrom

Brian, thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. We’re excited to let our blog readers get to know you a little. What is your favorite thing about being on the Board of Collage?

I appreciate getting to know the staff and helping with projects around the building.

Would you tell us about your education and professional background? Where did you go to school and what is your real job when you’re not volunteering your time as a board member?

I graduated from high school in Wilcox and attended college for three years before leaving to begin my career as an Agricultural Production Specialist (farmer).

We imagine farming takes up quite a bit of your time, but what do you like to do outside of work?

I like to run, irritate my wife, and cheer on the Men’s Husker Basketball team.

You mentioned your wife, will you share a little about your family?

My wife is Jenice and we have three children: Bethany (attends Chadron State College), Bria (junior at Axtell), and Jaron (7th grade at Axtell). We love going to bike rides together, working together on the farm, and going out to eat.

What is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?

It doesn’t look like New York or Los Angeles. I love the wide open spaces.

Being a farmer requires you to be a jack of all trades, but nobody is good at everything. What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?

My wife says I’m no good at loading the dishwasher.

We’re pretty sure loading a dishwasher is a skill you’re either born with or you’re not. What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?

I built a 120’ tower for a grain leg and used a crane to set the pieces in place. The scary part was sitting on the top of the tower and disconnecting the cable from the crane. It didn’t fall… and neither did I!

What is your favorite TV show or Movie?

My favorite movie is “What About Bob?”

Baby steps. It’s all about the baby steps. That is a fantastic movie. But let’s get a little more serious for a couple questions. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I do my own bin construction.

What are some things that make you really happy?

I’m happy spending time with my wife; I also love a warm, sunny day.

Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?

That’s difficult, I’ve had so many. I was on a date once and I forgot her name.

Ouch, we’re guessing there wasn’t a second date after that. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?

Steak

If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’ve always wanted to go to Singapore, and South America would be nice. Perhaps Peru. I’d love to see Sweden and Germany.

Those all sound wonderful. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Never spend more than you make and always make more than you spend. – Ron Hansen, UNL Ag professor

That is great advice. What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Some day I will have a Porsche.

One last question. Is there anything else we need to know about you?

Jenice thinks I’m addicted to Candy Crush.

Brian thanks again for making time for us.

If there was something in the Q&A you liked we’d love to hear from you in the comments. We may even get Brian back to answer a few questions if you have any for him.
