Get to Know the Collage Staff: Jordan Nelson

Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs, we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting.

This week we want to introduce you to Jordan Nelson, one of fantastic nurses.

Get To Know the Collage Staff Jordan Nelson

What’s your favorite thing about working at Collage?

I love all the people I get to work with and the clients I get to meet when they come in. The team here at Collage is so amazing and I’m very thankful to be a part of it!

Jordan, will you tell us a bit about your education and professional background?

I went to UNK for my general studies and then to UNMC – Kearney division for my nursing degree. After college, I got a job at Good Samaritan Hospital on the Medical Surgical floor. I eventually transferred to the Family Birth Center there. OB has always been my dream and where I wanted to end up. I just recently left Good Sam and I got a job at Kearney Regional Hospital in the Maternity Care Center.

We’re sure being a nurse can be pretty stressful. What hobbies do you have outside of work to help you unwind?

I love to scrapbook and work on crafts I find on Pinterest. I just got a new cricut machine and I love playing with that and coming up with new ideas. I also like to read and hang out with my friends.

Would you share a little bit about your family?

Originally I am from North Platte. I came to Kearney for college. I became very involved with the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching band, where I met my husband Mark. We’ve been married for almost 5 wonderful years. We have 2 dogs, Desi and Lucy and one cat named Elsa.

We love fur babies! What would you say is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?

I’m not a big city kind of person. I love to travel to them but as far as living, I love living in a smaller community. I think Kearney is just the perfect size, not too big but not too small. Nebraska has always been home to me and I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Now we get to some of the fun questions where we learn about the “real” Jordan. What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?

I am trying to teach myself how to crochet…and I am just not doing very well at it. I’d like to learn how to make baby hats and progress to bigger projects in the future. I’m hoping I’ll get it someday 😉

What is your favorite TV show or Movie?

It’s hard to pick a favorite because I like a lot! One of my all-time favorites is I Love Lucy. When I was a kid I watched it all the time and just fell in love with Lucy. I also really love Harry Potter. (Books and Movies.) You can also never go wrong with a Disney movie. Definitely hard to pick a favorite Disney movie because I have too many, but some my top favorites are The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp and Frozen.

So other than the Lion King soundtrack (Hakuna Matata, Hakuna Matata, Hakuna Matata), what song or band is your guilty pleasure?

Again, I have too many favorites! I love country the most. I would say my favorite band would be Rascall Flatts. But I do jam out to my Frozen soundtrack quit a bit in the car ;).

Let it go, let it go, Can’t hold it back anymore. Sorry, we got a little carried away there. Back to the questions. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’m really proud of myself for going to nursing school and obtaining my BSN. As long as I can remember, I always said I wanted to be a nurse, and I wanted to work in OB and I’ve accomplished both!

What are some things that make you really happy?

I love spending time with my family and friends. Mark and I like to travel when we can and I love finding new adventures with him. I’m also a big dog person, so when I come home from work or being out of town, I love coming home to my dogs and seeing how excited they get when we come home.

What was the last spontaneous thing you did?

I do like to be spontaneous, but it’s been a while since I’ve done anything spontaneously. I used to all the time when I was in College, but as I have gotten older I am definitely more of a planner. I guess I’d say, an after dinner drive to the Mexican border when I was doing some clinical hours in Texas.

That sounds like so much fun! We think you can tell a lot about a person from the books they enjoy. What were the last 2 books you read?

I do love to read, and I should do it more than I do now. The current book I am reading is The Mountain Between Us. I’m really enjoying that. Two books I read before that were Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and A Dog’s Purpose.

Would you describe yourself as an introvert or an extrovert?

I am definitely an introvert.

If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?

If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I love to travel! I’d travel all the time if I could. One place I’ve always wanted to go is Ireland. Another place I’d love to go someday would be London. I’ve been once, but it was only a couple days. I’d really like to visit the Warner Bros. studio there and see all of the Harry Potter sites.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Never have any regrets, because what you did was what you wanted at the time and led you to where you are today.

That is great advice. Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Albus Dumbledore.

Ah, Dumbledore was a wise man.

Jordan, thanks so much for spending some time with our readers and letting them get to know you a little bit. If Jordan shared something you liked, we’d love for you to let her know in the comments and we may even be able to get her back if you have any other questions.
