Get to Know the Collage Staff: Julie Pack
Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs, we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting. This week we want to introduce you to the many faces of Julie Pack, our Kearney Center Director & Nurse Manager.
What is your favorite thing about working at Collage?
I love the team I work with! They work so well together to serve our clients and have a lot of fun too! They work hard with a little playing hard mixed in😉😊.
Sounds like a great balance. Tell us a bit about your education and professional background.
I got my Bachelor of Nursing Degree at UNMC in Lincoln (a long time ago). Since then, I have worked in a variety of nursing roles, including Oncology, Urology, Home Health, and most recently in Mental Health.
That’s pretty impressive! What hobbies do you have outside of work?
I love to spend time with my friends and family, including my new grandson, Eli. I also love being outside-taking my dog Samson for walks or walking with my friends. I’ve recently been reading more. I like to make sure I’m exercising (is that a hobby???), and love to play tennis.
We trust Gaye’s dog Walter approves of Samson😉🐶. Tell us a little more about your family.
I’m married to Paul. He likes to tell people that he is more like Pulp Fiction and I’m like Lion King…an unlikely match. My daughter, Kaelyn, is 21, and will be a senior at UNK. My son Connor is 18, and will be starting his first year at UNK. Kaelyn had my first Grandbaby, Elias Paul, on May 22nd of this year and he may have taken over my all-time “favorite human” spot.
That’s super sweet! What is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?
Definitely the people. The people here are so warm, kind, and friendly.
Is there something that you are just absolutely no good at doing?
I would say decorating. I cannot visualize things together. I’m very good at copying other people’s ideas though! Shout out to Pinterest🤗.
What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Moved across the country to New Hampshire. Away from all of the “comfort” of warm and friendly Nebraska.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
This is tough…I don’t really have a favorite. But I like a wide variety. I loved the Bourne Identity series, but also Anne of Green Gables!
That is definitely a wide variety. So now we start to get to know the real you. Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
Again, I really love variety, but 80’s music with some 90’s MC Hammer mixed in is always a fun go-to in my playlist.
Other than dancing around the house in Hammer pants, what are some other things that make you really happy?
Coffee. The Beach. Coffee. The Mountains. Oh, I almost forgot! Coffee.
Sounds like you fit right in with the rest of the Collage team! Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?
Oh boy….one time I was running into the YMCA and was late for an exercise class. I saw the class members were on the treadmills so just ran to jump on one. Well, the instructor got off of it for me while it was still on…so I tried to jump on (while it was still on) and fell flat on my face.
Really, we’re not laughing at you, we’re laughing with you. On a more serious note, what were the last 2 books you read?
I am currently reading “The Road Back to You” by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile on the Enneagram/ different personality types. Before that, I read “An Unquiet Mind” which is an autobiography of sorts by a Psychiatrist and her personal battle with Bipolar.
Those sound interesting. So you like reading and you enjoy spending time with family and friends. Would you say you are more an introvert or an extrovert?
An extrovert who has discovered I have an inner Introvert who needs to be alone to recharge sometimes!
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
Do calories count??? If not, Italian.
Excellent choice! If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Hawaii. I would love the beach time but would have fun exploring the volcanoes too.
What’s something that not everyone may know about you?
I’m super excited to get my first tattoo! I know what it will be but I just can’t decide where I want to put it. That’s what’s holding me back.
You said “first” tattoo. Are there plans for more? Ok. We’ll let you keep that to yourself for now. Besides serving our community through Collage, is there anything else that you’re really passionate about?
I absolutely love spending a week every summer as the nurse at a Royal Family Kids Camp. It’s such a beautiful way to love on abused, abandoned and neglected children in the foster care system.
That is awesome. Last question. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others well.
Julie, thanks so much for spending some time with our readers and letting them get to know you a little bit. If Julie shared something you liked, we’d love for you to let her know in the comments and we may even be able to get her back if you have any other questions.
