Get to Know the Collage Staff: Kirsten Reyes
Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs, we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting. This week we want to introduce you to Kirsten Reyes, our Client Relations Coordinator in Kearney.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Collage?
My favorite thing is being able to be a part of helping create beauty from the unexpected in all areas of this job. I love the women I work with and the people I get to see come in!
Tell us a bit about your education and professional background.
I’ve spent time as an overseas volunteer helping feed the poor, worked as a coordinator with a nonprofit organization in Kearney, and have had training overseas as well as in the U.S. for missionary work and entrepreneurship.
What hobbies do you have outside of work?
I enjoy the exercise of yoga and running, singing, designing, occasional reading, and I’m passionate about creating delicious healthy meals!
Would you share a little about your family?
I’m married to a handsome, thoughtful, intelligent, highly motivated Ecuadorian. I’m enjoying the newlywed life with him :). I have two older brothers, and now have family in both Ecuador and Nebraska! I love my family and the diversity we have.
What is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?
My favorite thing would be how friendly the culture typically is. Specifically, I love how people in Central Nebraska are usually super laid back and socially friendly with people they don’t even know.
Okay, let’s get to some of the important questions. What’s one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?
I’m absolutely no good at crafts and being intellectual. So when it comes to anything crafty, I’d much rather buy it than create it because it never turns out like I envision it.
What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Free-falling down a waterfall in Ecuador, at night no less, when it was pitch black! Talk about an incredible adrenalin rush!
Wow! We’re not sure if that sounds fun, or just crazy! What’s your favorite TV show or Movie?
My favorite TV show is F.R.I.E.N.D.S.! I watch it and re-watch it, especially if I need a laugh!
Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
Oh man, this is a hard one to choose from, but if I had to pick, my guilty pleasure song is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
Great song! Now we’re all going to have that stuck in our head all day. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Living overseas in Australia and Ecuador.
That is cool. Sometime we need to learn more about those experiences. What are some things that make you really happy?
Traveling the world, a healthy lifestyle of eating, exercise, along with personal growth, and community with friends and family! I really enjoy getting to know new people too!
Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?
In first grade I peed my pants in front of my crush! As my teacher pulled me toward the door to go to the nurse’s office, I overheard my crush saying, “Ew!” I guess he was pretty grossed out.
Oh no! What was the last spontaneous thing you did?
When I moved back here last minute with my husband over Christmas from Ecuador! Totally unexpected!
Sounds like you are definitely up for adventure and the unexpected. What were the last 2 books you read?
1. “Fracture” by Josh Klein
2. “Dangerous” by Caleb Bislow
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I am usually an extrovert who occasionally has seasons as an introvert!
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
I’d say pizza!
If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Europe! I would first fly to Italy and then take the train all across Europe.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Don’t let materials keep you from experiences because materials fade and won’t last, but experiences change you and will always carry on with you.
Sounds like you have taken that advice to heart and are living it out. Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?
“Great things never came from comfort zones.” -Unknown
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I have an entire journal full of inspirational quotes that I go back to so that I can remind myself of different perspectives and encouragements that I’d like to have in my mind and my character.
Is there anything else we need to know about you?
I used to have personal fears concerning relationships and having my own babies, but I have learned to allow those fears to be transformed into healthy desires.
And I love nature and exploring the outdoors. Some other activities I enjoy are hiking, camping, picnics, swimming in the ocean, and surfing!
Kirsten, thanks so much for spending some time with our readers and letting them get to know you a little bit. If Kirsten shared something you liked, we’d love for you to let her know in the comments and we may even be able to get her back if you have any other questions.
