Get to Know the Collage Staff: Michelle Pearson

Every so often we like to introduce you to one of our Collage staff members or volunteers to help you get to know them a little bit. During these Q&A blogs we’ll ask them about their role at Collage, their families and we’ll try to give you an inside scoop into their lives to discover their favorite movies, most embarrassing moments or other fun things you’ll find interesting.

This week we want to introduce you to Michelle Pearson, our SHARE Coordinator and Patient Advocate in both Kearney and Grand Island.

Get to Know the Collage Staff - Michelle Pearson

Michelle,  Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk a little about yourself in order to allow our blog readers to get to know you.

What is your favorite thing about working at Collage?

I’m the newbie here, but I think the thing that I’m going to like best about working at Collage will be working with such an exceptional team. Gaye, Kenda, Joey and the rest of the ladies have such a great culture built here–and I am excited to learn from them!

Will you share a bit about your education and professional background?

I studied a year at NE Wesleyan University in Lincoln, but couldn’t quite commit to a major. So I began working at Hy-Vee where I was a manager for several years. I quickly learned that I LOVED working with people and later went on to receive my Associates degree in Biblical Studies. But my favorite title of all, has always been the position of “Crazy Mom.”

So “Crazy Mom,” tell us a little about your family.

I met my husband when I was 15. We were high school sweethearts. And we just celebrated our 20th anniversary. We have five very smart, beautiful children…Chase, who is 18; Porter is 16, Olivia is 14, Zoe (the only blondie) is 8, and little Gracie who is 2. That’s right, we’re sending one off to college while getting ready to potty train another…we sure do love those kiddos‼

Sounds like you have your hands full. When you’re not working or trying to keep up with the kids, what hobbies to you enjoy?

I love reading, camping, finding new TV series to obsessively watch with my hubby and hosting game nights at our house. I also love interior design, so you can often find me redecorating/organizing my house, or a friend’s – if they’ll let me, LOL:)

What is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?

Since SCENERY is out, 🙂 I think I appreciate the sincerity and graciousness of the people in this area. I also love the work ethic and sense of community I see all around me.

We love the community and how they support each other too. Now we’re moving into dangerous territory where we get to know the “real” Michelle. What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?

Computer skills…HELP?!?

Just hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, doesn’t that fix everything? So, other than computers, what’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?

Hmm. When I moved from Lincoln to my husband’s small town, I didn’t know how to drive on gravel. I wrecked my car and flew down a 60 foot drop off, with only the trees to catch my fall. My life flashed right before my eyes and I walked away with only minor injuries. It reminds me all the time how short life can be and how thankful I am to be alive!

Wow – that must have been terrifying. It sounds like a scene out of an action movie. Speaking of movies, (did you see that smooth segue?), what is your favorite TV show or Movie?

TV show–either NCIS or Tattoo Reality shows

Movie–Pride & Prejudice…old school long version though.

Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?

Def Leppard (my 1st concert) Pour some sugar on me, in the name of love, that’s why I’m hot and sticky sweet from my head to my feet. Yeeeeeaaahhhhhh!

Wow – that was impressive. We’ll give you a second to get off the table and put away the air guitar before we move on to the next question… okay, I think we’re ready now. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

You mean besides my uncanny ability to belt out lyrics from Rock Classics from the 80’s? Well, if I must be serious, I am most proud of choosing to stay committed to my husband. We would have been voted most likely NOT to succeed in marriage. It’s so worth fighting for!

That is awesome. What are some things that make you really happy?

Beating my husband at Cribbage. When I have that special “bonding” moment with one of my kids and Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Core Cookies & Cream ice cream.

We may have to make a run to the store for some of that ice cream after the interview – it sounds amazing. Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?

I do lots of embarrassing things, but one time when I was little, I was trying to impress my family and I was really looking for some attention. I began rollerskating backwards–doing lots of cool tricks. Pretty soon, I lost control and fell right into my mom’s huge potted cactus with 6 inch needles. Everyone proceeded to laugh, mom nervously asking if I was ok…My rear wasn’t the only thing hurting, my pride hurt pretty bad too! Mostly because there was a little boy that I liked coming up the street right when I fell.

So does that mean you won’t be roller skating backwards through the office anytime soon? We’d love to get that on video. Tell us about the last spontaneous thing you did?

I planned a trip to Omaha with Mike to take him out on a date. But in true confession mode, I also secretly wanted to go furniture shopping. (Remember how I love to redecorate?!?)

Sneaky. Would you describe yourself as an introvert or an extrovert?

I am a closet introvert–meaning most people would say that I am an extrovert, but I actually really love and need time alone to get re-energized. If it weren’t for Mike and the kids, I would most likely be a hermit.

If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Ireland because I just love castles…they’re so romantic…so dreamy. Just the thought of it makes me want to pack up my hubby and sneak away. And believe me, we wouldn’t be furniture shopping 😉

That may be TMI so we’ll just move on to the next question. Do you have a favorite quote to share with us?

“Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.” –Tom Peters

#influenceloveotherswellbecontagious

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I hate riding roller coasters and dancing. Not at the same time, mind you.

Is there anything else we need to know about you?

I love to think outside the box and be creative. I’m also passionate about loving others well and getting to hear other people’s stories. Just like at Collage, I believe we all deserve a happy ending and I’ll do my part in helping rewrite the stories of those around me.

Michelle, thanks so much for spending some time with our readers and letting them get to know you a little bit. If Michelle shared something you liked, we’d love for you to let her know in the comments and we may even be able to get her back if you have any other questions.
