Meet Kenda High, Collage’s New Center Director in Kearney

Kendra High - Collage Director in Kearney This week we’re excited to introduce you to Kenda High, Collage’s new Center Director in our Kearney office. Take a few minutes to get to know her a little from our Q&A session and be sure to say hi when you see her in the office or around town.

Kenda, what are you most looking forward to as you join the Collage team?

Being able to meet new people and to help, teach, encourage them and to view options in situations they are faced with.

What attracted you to Collage and your role here?

I love that Collage stands beside women in our community and looks out for their best interests. I feel like I am here for a reason, so overseeing the day-to-day operations of the center with my personality traits of being organized and detailed oriented is a great fit.

Will you share a little about your professional background?

I graduated from Bryan School of Nursing in 1985 and have had the opportunity to work in several specialty areas as we moved several times related to job and family.  The areas that have given me great opportunities: Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Outpatient Oncology, Home Infusion, Inpatient Rehab.

Wow, it sounds like you’ve been busy. Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

Well I enjoy anything outside, working with landscaping, mowing (I know, I’ve been told this is a little crazy but oh well, I do enjoy), riding bike (more if it’s calm outside and nice weather), and one of my favorite things now is being what I hope is a wonderful grandmother to two special  little girls (6mo old and 3week old).

Congrats on being a new Grandma again. Please share a bit more about your family.

I am blessed! I have been married to my great guy for 28 years and have 3 wonderful kids – twin boys and 1 daughter. Of course we didn’t feel like out immediate family was complete until we had a lot of excitement and fun welcoming 2 daughter-in-laws and 1 terrific son-in-law. We’ve teased and said they are brave to be a part of the “High” clan.

What is your favorite thing about living in Central Nebraska?

The people and the farms. I grew up on the farm where I learned to work hard and play hard along with meeting lots of people. Farmers know how to help each other when a helping hand is needed.  I am proud to be from central Nebraska where there are lots of kind, fun and very genuine people!

What is one thing that you are just absolutely no good at doing?

Remodeling!! I love to help but it definitely would not be a pretty site without the direction and most importantly someone else to tell me what to do.

We think you can learn a lot about someone from the types of TV shows and movies they watch. Do you have a favorite genre?

I am a softy and love to watch a good movie that makes me cry! I love to watch HGTV and dream! I also enjoy watching with my husband what he calls ‘blood and guts’ movie’s or those that are action packed.

Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?

Well I have thought of several but want to be sure its appropriate cuz as my kids got older they would say mom we are eating please don’t share any stories. You nurses can talk about anything, anytime. Please spare us details! I am being nice and passing on this one.

What were the last 2 books you read?

Tested by Fire, Thanksgiving Prayer.

If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?

Ice Cream-Oh maybe that’s not a food but I will say this because I have been a diabetic since I was a kid and don’t get this very often. I think there are lots of flavors that sound delicious.

If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?

That sounds fantastic, but only if you take all of us with you. Final question, do you have a favorite quote to share with us?

“The difficulties of life are intended to make us better, not bitter.”   “You are loved: Loved because you’re special. Special because you’re you!”

Thanks Kenda for being wiling to let us get to know you a little through this Q&A.  We’re thrilled to have you join the Collage team and can’t wait to serve our amazing community alongside you.
