STD Testing and Treatment
Collage offers complimentary testing and treatment for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, two of the most common STDs. If you think you may be at risk we recommend refraining from any sexual contact until you have been tested and cleared. Please contact us to talk about testing options or to schedule an appointment.
What you need to know about Chlamydia:
Did you know that Chlamydia is the number one STD for men and women under the age of 25? The number is huge. Like 2.9 million new cases every year in America huge. The CDC says, “The initial damage that chlamydia causes often goes unnoticed. However, chlamydia can lead to serious health problems.” We also thought our blog post on Five Things Every Student Needs to Know About Chlamydia might also be helpful.
What you need to know about Gonorrhea:
Did you know that gonorrhea is a common infectious disease? It’s so common that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 820,000 people in the US get new infections each year. They also estimate that 570,000 of those infections are happening to young people 15-24 years of age. So you can see why this is a big deal to know a little bit about gonorrhea to keep yourself safe. For more info, here’s a link to our blog post – Five Things Every Student Needs to Know About Gonorrhea.
How long will the appointment take?
The appointment will be 45 minutes to an hour with a licensed medical professional.
Can I bring someone with me?
Absolutely! You can bring whoever you would like. It’s always good to have the support of friends or family during an uncertain time.
What will I do when I get there?
First, we’ll need you to provide a valid photo ID and fill out a couple of forms. Then you’ll provide a urine sample that will be used to run the STD Tests. You’ll have a chance to share with a medical professional how you are feeling and ask the questions you may have about STDs.
How long until I get the results?
It typically takes about 5-7 days for us to get your results. We’ll schedule a follow-up appointment for the following week to go over your result with you.
What happens if I test positive?
We’ll go over the results with you and if they are positive we will treat you right then and there. If you have one or the other, or both, we’ll treat you accordingly. A few things we’ll ask of you are, to stay awhile after you take the medication, to make sure you don’t have a reaction (standard practice) and to abstain from sex for 7 days to prevent re-infection.
How much does it cost?
Because of incredibly generous people in our community, all of our services are complimentary. That means, donors give hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to provide these services at no cost to you!
